The product Golden Root Complex is not registered or licensed with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). The MHRA have given Golden Root Complex a Transitional Marketing Protection period of seven years.

Golden Root Complex is an herbal medicine because of the ingredients it contains. Herbal medicinal products used to be regulated under the medicines act nineteen sixty eight specifically section twelve which permitted them to be sold by way of retail sale. This was provided certain conditions were satisfied and those conditions were that the product satisfied the definition of herbal remedy and that it was named from the plant or plants it contained. Golden Root official Latin name: Rhodiola Rosea also known as Rhodiola Root, Rose Root and Crenulin.

The traditional herbal medicinal products directive (2004/24/EC) was published in the official journal of the European Union on 30th April 2004. The directive was implemented into UK law by the medicines (Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products for Human Use) Regulations 2005 (S.I. 2005/2750), on 30th October 2005 which marked the beginning of a simplified registration scheme. For unlicensed herbal medicines legally on the market on 30th April 2004, the directive provided a seven year transitional period but continuing protection is dependent upon continuing compliance with the section 12(2) requirements.

Products which are not eligible for the transitional protection are required to comply with the requirements set out in S.I.2005/2750. In 2004 the importers of Goldenrootcomplex requested marketing protection under the transitional arrangements.
